ISO 9001 is THE quality management standard. The purpose of ISO 9001 is to provide users with guidance on developing a quality management system that ensures products and services are suitable for their intended use and free from defects, etc.

The standard from 2008 was fundamentally revised and, in 2015, a new version—ISO 9001:2015—was published. This was a “major” revision. The new structure (the so-called “High Level Structure,” which in future will serve as the basis for all management standards) is intended to make it easier to integrate ISO 9001 with other management standards. Another key innovation is the requirement for risk management, which is now incorporated into many sections.

ISO 9001 is applicable regardless of the type and size of the organization. Around 1 million organizations worldwide rely on ISO 9001 in production, development, transport, and many other areas.
